GoDB Helps Build Cost-Effective Programs Across Platforms
With the increasing need for real-time availability of information, enterprises have to depend on mobile devices. It is more so in the case of companies that are engaged in businesses which have field staff and very high level of customer interaction.
Targeting this space, the Chennai-based Consign Technology, an Intel-funded firm, has developed a software tool GoDB for developing mobile and wireless business applications. It has just made the global launch of its latest version.
GoDB IDE version 3.4 is a multi-platform rapid application development tool designed to assist software developers and enterprises in building cost-effective applications. It enables the development of a variety of applications for diverse hardware platforms - handheld tools like palmtops, laptop and desktops running on any of the popular operating systems.
Mr. R.
Raja, MD, Consign Technology, said: "The global launch is based on the success of a beta version of GoDB made available online. In a span of two months, over 2,800 people have downloaded the beta version, including a substantial number from the US and Europe. We are therefore confident of a strong demand for GoDB IDE 3.4 in both domestic and international markets."
Mr.
P. Mahavir Chand, Marketing Director, Consign Technology, said the earlier version of GoDB is used by clients like 3M India, ICICI Lombard and 3I Infotech.
The company is now aggressively pushing its product in overseas markets. Consign Technology, which offers online support to customers to evaluate and purchase the product, is also increasing its backend infrastructure to support worldwide application developers and international clients.
Highlighting GoDB's unique-selling proposition, Mr. Mahavir said that while mobile devices are fast becoming integral part of day-to-day business transactions, connectivity is often not assured.
"GoDB applications are designed to function both offline and online. When offline, GoDB intelligently downloads the required data on the client's (mobile) device so that the application can continue to run even when the connectivity is not available," he said.

According
to Mr. Raja Raman, Managing Director of Consign Technology, "At ICICI Lomard, we want to
extend swift services to our clients customer exploiting the latest technology available. Launch
of GoDB is an important milestone in the Indian insurance industry, since the processing of
insurance will happen at the agent and customer premises, than depending on a central process".
ICICI Lombard is building a multi-product POS, where they can sell insurance policies without being
connected to ICICI Lombard central server. ICICI Lombard will centrally manage the POS application.
GoDB is a multi-platform application development platform for developing handheld and
disconnected applications. Key advantages of GoDB based applications are :
They are Platform Independent (Same applications work on all OS and devices)
work without any form of connectivity to central server, which is a norm in other
industry standard applications.
It can synchronise/integrate with any database at the central server.
According
to Mr. Sudhir Salian, Head, Strategy and Technology, ICICI Lombard, "We want to
be a technology-oriented insurance distribution company. Use of the appropriate and
cost-effective technology in the right areas of operation shall enable us to offer
superior, effective and efficient and services to our customer and shall render us with
a greater reach. Increasingly, the challenges are going to be in distribution and we
feel a good technology infrastructure will be the backbone to attempt anything in
this area. At an appropriate time we are also looking at M-powering our sales force with
mobile applications using GoDB".
